How to Set Up Your Deco M5 Mesh Wi-Fi System

Overview
Your TP-Link Deco M5 creates a seamless whole-home Wi-Fi network and is configured entirely through the TP-Link Deco App available on Android and iPhone.
Before you begin, ensure you have:
✅ Your Deco M5 unit(s)
✅ A smartphone or tablet
✅ Internet modem (or active Ethernet connection)
✅ Ethernet cable
✅ TP-Link account (free)
Important Notes Before Setup
- The Deco M5 cannot be configured through a web browser.
- The Deco app must be downloaded before setup.
- Disable battery-saving mode on your phone during setup.
- iPhone/iPad users (iOS 14+) must allow Local Network permissions for the Deco app.
- If you do not have mobile data available, download the Deco app before disconnecting your existing internet service or we recommend using as neighbours, friends or public Wi-Fi to download the "Deco" App.
Step 1: Download the Deco App
Download and install the TP-Link Deco App:
Android
Google Play Store
iPhone/iPad
Apple App Store

Step 2: Create or Sign Into Your TP-Link Account
Open the Deco App.
- Existing users: Sign in with your TP-Link ID.
- New users: Tap “Don't have an Account” and create a free account.
If you’ve forgotten your password, tap Forgot Password and follow the prompts.

Step 3: Power On Your Deco
- Plug your Deco M5 into power.
- Wait for the LED to begin pulsing blue.
If the LED is not Blue
Press and hold the reset button for approximately 1 second.
The LED will:
- Turn Yellow
- Reboot
- Begin pulsing Blue within approximately 2 minutes
Step 4: Start Setup in the Deco App
Open the Deco App and tap:
Let’s Begin
The app will walk you through the setup process.

Step 5: Connect Your Phone to the Deco
The app will automatically search for your Deco.
Option A: Wi-Fi (Most Common)
Your phone may automatically connect to:
Deco_XXXX
If it doesn’t:
- Open Wi-Fi Settings
- Locate the Deco network listed on the sticker underneath the unit
- Connect manually

Option B: Bluetooth
The Deco App may also discover the unit using Bluetooth.

Step 6: Connect Deco to Your Internet Service
If You Have a Modem
- Turn off the modem.
- Connect the Ethernet cable between:
- Modem LAN 1 Port (only device to be connected to the modem)
- Any Deco Ethernet Port
- Turn the modem back on.
- Wait until the modem is fully online.

Step 7: Choose a Location
Select the room where the Deco is located.
Examples:
- Living Room
- Office
- Bedroom
- Basement
This only affects how the device appears inside the app.

Step 8: Select Internet Connection Type
Most Wakey Internet customers should select:
Dynamic IP (Recommended)
This is the correct option for nearly all Wakey Cable Internet customers.

Step 9: Create Your Wi-Fi Network
Create:
Wi-Fi Name (SSID)
Example:
Wakey Home WiFi
Wi-Fi Password
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 characters
- Use a secure password
Example:
SunnyLake2026!

Step 10: Connect to Your New Wi-Fi Network
After saving your Wi-Fi settings:
- Your Deco will configure itself.
- Your phone will disconnect temporarily.
- Reconnect using the Wi-Fi name and password you just created.

Step 11: Setup Complete
Congratulations! ????
Your Deco M5 is now online and broadcasting Wi-Fi.
Connect all your devices using the new Wi-Fi credentials.

Adding Additional Deco Units (Optional)
If your package includes multiple Deco units:
- Place the additional Deco in the same room as the main Deco.
- Plug it into power.
- Wait approximately 2 minutes.
The additional unit should automatically join your network.
After pairing:
- Move it to another room.
- Wait 2–3 minutes.
- Verify the LED remains solid green.

Recommended Placement Tips
For best performance:
✅ Place Decos in open areas
✅ Keep away from microwaves and cordless phones
✅ Position midway between coverage areas
❌ Avoid closets
❌ Avoid metal cabinets
❌ Avoid behind televisions
Troubleshooting
LED Not Pulsing Blue?
Factory reset the Deco by holding the reset button for 20-30 second and waiting 2 minutes.
No Internet After Setup?
- Reboot the modem.
- Reboot the Deco.
- Verify Ethernet cable connections.
- Confirm Dynamic IP is selected.
